We all desire to make holidays and to enjoy the summer time. We are very close in time to this lovely season, but are we really prepared?
At the best mosquitoes will only annoy us. At the worst we fall ill after bite.
Since 2007, there occurred reports from Italy that the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) transmitted chikungunya, an illness with symptoms similar to dengue fever. In 2010, cases of chikungunya and dengue were reported from southeastern France. October 2012, ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) published that dengue infection occurred in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and that confirmed presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a competent vector for dengue, could cause additional cases. Europe is not anymore free of risk for vector born diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
We don’t like to make you nervous. We only would like to help you to be prepared for your holidays in Europe.
We wish you a pleasant time – take care and stay healthy.
If you already know in which region of Europe you will enjoy your holidays, please find here a link to ECDC MOSQUITOES - DISTRIBUTION MAPS and be informed about possible occurrence of potentially hazardous mosquitoe, fly and tick species ECDC/VBORNET maps.
